Meeting the Root of your Suffering

THE METHOD

Somatic Inquiry is an awareness-based, body-led approach that works with the understanding that much of our conscious suffering is shaped by unconscious beliefs, identities, emotional repression, and protective strategies held within the body.

Unconscious patterns often developed early in life as intelligent ways of meeting unmet childhood needs. Over time, can become the very structures that shape our personalities - how we relate to ourselves, others, and the world. This can present as looping mind patterns, painful unresolved emotional states, reactivity, chronic bodily tension patterns, physical chronic conditions, mental conditions, addictive tendencies, insecure attachment bonds, stress/overwhelm, guilt/shame and more.

Inquiry offers a way to compassionately bring what has been unconscious into awareness, through direct, embodied experience.

Mind and Body

Mind and Body are not separate.

Thoughts (Words and Images) and Bodily Sensations (Emotions, Energy, Pain, Contraction) are constantly informing one another.

The work is based on a simple but transformative principle:

When we feel triggered or emotionally overwhelmed, what we are experiencing is usually a combination of
thoughts, emotions, and body sensations, happening all at once.

Initially, these elements are gently separated and met one at a time. Guiding the process towards linking current feeling to historical experience.

Unprocessed emotional energy often reinforces painful belief and identity. Formed to protect us from the deepest fear of expressing and embodying our truth, in spaces where this once was not encouraged. Rather than trying to change beliefs directly, we work at the level of loving invitation, allowance of what is present already, to be spoken out with awareness and holding. With this care, beliefs and trapped emotion dissolve organically. Presence is not then something we create; it emerges as resistance reduces.

Role of Awareness

Each session is founded upon the ability to set one apart from the identity within the role of “observer” + “witnesser”. This assists in unwinding from painful beliefs held about ourselves, when one part can become this fully, another is fully grounded in this state of observation + holding. This perspective is not about distancing or bypassing experience, but about creating enough space to meet it safely and honestly.

We go a step further than traditional mindfulness as the body and mind are invited to reveal what has been held beneath the surface, at a pace guided by capacity, and organic nervous system regulation.

Allowing an unwinding of protective patterns, not because they are wrong, but because they are no longer needed in the same way. We can start to see how sticky and uncomfortable emotional and energetic patterns in the body link to these particular beliefs and identities.

Allowing all aspects to be felt, seen, validated and released.

Making the Unconscious Conscious

Many of the rules we live by are unspoken and unseen.

Internal rules about who we must be, how we must feel, or what is allowed or not allowed.

These rules are often held in the body as emotional contraction or repression.

Hidden from view - until the right question is asked.

Inquiry is a process of de-programming from these internalised rules and in turn releasing the emotions connected to them.

Making the unconscious, conscious is not a process of force with a desire to change or alter, rather, an allowance of all that was rejected in the name of keeping tribe in tact. You are most likely already angry, hurt or sad, it’s just that your body has become adept at hiding this in symptoms instead of the expressing this alive and very vibrant force of expression.

Making the unconscious, conscious is a process of revealment.

Safety + Capacity

The body and nervous system operate through a hierarchy of safety. This work makes conscious this hierarchy.

Sessions are paced according to your capacity. Nothing is pushed, and nothing is forced. Over time, you develop the ability to recognise how safety, contraction, and openness are experienced in your own body, not as theory, but as lived knowing.

What This Work Can Support

  • The softening of chronic tension patterns in the body (pain, contraction, tightness)

  • Uncovering the hidden identities and beliefs driven by unconscious emotional triggers

  • Tending to and resolving addiction loops

  • States of chronic stress, depression, ocd, anxiety

  • Develop an embodied understanding of your own nervous system

  • Building a self-guided practice for meeting future triggers and challenges

How does a session unfold?

Sessions take place on Zoom and usually begin with Facilitated Inquiry, meaning initially you will be guided into your own body and slowly develop capacity to learn the tools, experience the process directly. Over time, sessions will shift toward Mentoring, with the aim of empowering you to work independently. This timeline is individual dependent and there is no rush.

Ultimately, the intention is not for you to rely on us indefinitely, but to develop a lifelong skill set for meeting yourself honestly and compassionately whenever Suffering arises.

The timeline of this work varies for each person and is not the focus. The work is about awareness - making what is unconscious, conscious - allowing change to unfold in its own time.

An Honest Note

The work contextually is simple, but it is not always easy.

It often challenges deeply ingrained patterns that once helped maintain Safety, Connection, and Belonging, even if these exact patterns contribute to our deepest suffering.

This suffering is familiar, and because of this it often feels safer, than meeting and feeling the Emotions driving the disconnect and lack felt within. This is Repression and this is the crux of the work.

Our goal is to remind you of this body intelligence. That the body has always known how to come back home.

Nothing within ever broken, just information guiding us back, again and again and again.

Due to this hierarchy of safety operating within our bodies, the foundational sessions will be exploring core sabotage patterns we may hold so that we don’t sabotage our process to freedom, alongside the dominantly repressed emotion we hold in our bodies. All sessions will revolve around this key component.
